Exercise Concerns

Safe levels of exercise will depend on the cause of the pulmonary hypertension. Overall, patients with pulmonary hypertension have exercise restrictions.

In all patients with pulmonary hypertension, the overall condition of the patient should be closely monitored and safe activity levels will need to be determined by the cardiologist. Patients with pulmonary hypertension are at risk of sudden death with exercise and should be carefully evaluated prior to engagement in any type of exercise.

Anyone with pulmonary hypertension, treated or untreated, should consult with their cardiologist about physical activity to review the risks.
